OrangeWare Corporation, announced a Windows® based software driver for 1394 Audio supporting the IEC 61883-6 specification. The 1394 Audio Driver supports Windows 2000 and XP. It is the only windows driver available which facilitates the Pro Audio technology embodied by the IEC61883-6 specification. The 1394 Audio Driver permits a PC equipped with a 1394 port to send 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound down a single 1394 cable to an A/VR or amplified speaker set which supports the IEC 61883-6 specification.
The Market The current method for PC sound cards to deliver surround sound involves a host of analog cables and the resultant loss of quality. The new 1394 Audio technology delivers high quality digital sound while using only one 1394 cable!
Applications include external 1394/FireWire speakers, A/VR, DVD players, DVHS, AVHDDs, DTVs, external sound cards and midi/mixers e.g. “Garage BandTM” type pro consumer audio capture products.
Technical Information The OrangeWare 1394 Audio driver will support both the TI iceLynx-Micro and the Oxford FW970 chip. Support is provided for 1394 streaming on 6 or 8 channels of audio at speeds up to 400 Mb/s for receiving and processing 32-bit audio data sampled at up to 192kHz.
A second phase of the driver development will culminate next month with support for an ASIO interface. This will facilitate Pro Audio applications for Midi/Mixer environments. This creates a very exciting scenario for the ‘home’ recording studio on a PC. Interested OEM’s may contact OrangeWare directly at sales@orangeware.com.

| Mac OS X Wireless 802.11a, b and g Based Network Driver
OrangeWare’s announcement broadens the driver availability to all users of Atheros based wireless cards. They include D-Link, Netgear, Aztec, Elecom, Fujitsu, IBM, Linksys, NEC, Samsung, SMC and Sony. All their current wireless offerings listed at http://www.orangeware.com/endusers/wirelessformac.html can use the new OrangeWare Macintosh Wireless Driver. This means that the lonely Mac user can now link up with Mac and PC access points by using significantly lower cost wireless cards instead of expensive Airport cards. An Airport extreme card costs $99.00, whereas the Netgear card costs as little as $29.00. On May 3rd, 2004 OrangeWare announced a major technology development advance for Macintosh users with the latest upgrade, Version 3.0 of its 802.11a/b/g “Wireless Driver for Mac”. Whereas Apple’s AirPort Extreme 802.11g product offers a 54 Mb/s data rate, OrangeWare’s 802.11a/b/g Wireless Driver runs at up to 108 Mb/s and supports over 20 different wireless cards. OrangeWare offers the Wireless Driver for Mac to end users for $15. When it is combined with a host of non-Apple wireless cards, it can run at the newest performance modes called “Super G” or “Turbo Super G”. These capabilities are offered only on wireless cards using the Atheros wireless chipset, many of which are listed at http://www.orangeware.com/endusers/wirelessformac.html.
Available immediately in a free trial version from http://www.orangeware.com/endusers/wirelessformac.html the Wireless Driver for Mac v3.0 along with an 802.11g wireless card not only dramatically outruns Apple’s AirPort Extreme, but costs the consumer half as much.*
Another unique feature of the OrangeWare wireless driver is its compatibility with 802.11a networks. Not only is this the only 802.11a product available for Macintosh, but version 3.0 now allows “Turbo A” mode.
The Market: OrangeWare’s Wireless Driver for Mac is the ideal solution for 3 types of Mac users:
1. Users who want to add wireless to existing Macs with huge cost savings over Apple’s AirPort cards. 2. Users who want to upgrade their older, slower AirPort 802.11b cards for laptops. Since AirPort Extreme cards won’t fit into legacy AirPort slots due to a different form factor, a non-Apple CardBus card with the OrangeWare driver is the only available solution. This solution will increase speed by 12 times. 3. All Apple users who need to connect wirelessly to an 802.11a network must use the OrangeWare driver combined with a non-Apple add-on card as the only available solution.

| Windows FireWire 800/1394b Driver
This new technology allows for plug-and-play connectivity providing for easy exchange of devices and multiple-connectivity for peripherals in a chain utilizing one FireWire 800 bus. The previous IEEE 1394a maximum transfer speed of 400 Mbps can be doubled as this new innovation allows up to 800 Mbps to be transferred at distances up to 100 meters with proper cabling. This new feature will be a great benefit for streaming audio or video transmission as FireWire 800 supports both isochronous and asynchronous transfer modes for watching/recording live video footage or reading/writing to an external mass storage device.
When Microsoft released Service Pack 2 for Windows XP the 1394b driver stack reverted to 100mbps. OrangeWare has fixed this issue with our latest 1394b driver release and now will allow end users to achieve the former speeds of up to 800mbps.
