OrangeWare announces the release of a newly developed FireWire 800/IEEE 1394b driver for Windows 98se, ME, 2000, and XP |
|
Anaheim, CA OrangeWare, Inc. does it again by introducing a FireWire 800/IEEE 1394b driver for Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP. This new technology, currently not supported by Microsoft, allows data-transfer rates between 1394b peripherals and your PC of up to 800 Mbps.
This new technology allows for plug-and-play connectivity providing for easy exchange of devices and multiple-connectivity for peripherals in a chain utilizing one FireWire 800 bus. The previous IEEE 1394a maximum transfer speed of 400 Mbps can be doubled as this new innovation allows up to 800 Mbps to be transferred at distances up to 100 meters with proper cabling. This new feature will be a great benefit for streaming audio or video transmission as FireWire 800 supports both isochronous and asynchronous transfer modes for watching/recording live video footage or reading/writing to an external mass storage device.
OrangeWares driver is also backward compatible with FireWire 400/1394a devices as well. This compatibility allows FireWire 400 peripherals to be connected to FireWire 800 ports by using a standard 6 pin cable and will still retain functionality at up to 400 Mbps.
In essence, OrangeWares newest innovation will now allow PC enthusiasts the same bandwidth-intensive data transfer rates that Apple users have been enjoying. The OrangeWare driver fills in the support that Microsoft does not presently offer for 1394b and its operating systems. The expected release date for this new driver is June 6th, 2003.
