SUBJECT:           OrangeWare® Corporation announces a 1394 Audio Driver for Windows®

Anaheim, CA – Today, OrangeWare Corporation, announced a Windows® based software driver for 1394 Audio supporting the IEC 61883-6 specification. The 1394 Audio Driver supports Windows 2000 and XP.  It is the only driver available which facilitates the Pro Audio technology embodied by the IEC61883-6 specification.  The 1394 Audio Driver permits a PC equipped with a 1394 port to send 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound down a single 1394 cable to an A/VR or amplified speaker set which supports the IEC 61883-6 specification.

The Market

The current method for PC sound cards to deliver surround sound involves a host of analog cables and the resultant loss of quality.  The new 1394 Audio technology delivers high quality digital sound while using only one 1394 cable!

Applications include external 1394/FireWire speakers, A/VR, DVD players, DVHS, AVHDDs, DTVs, external sound cards and midi/mixers e.g. “Garage BandTM” type pro consumer audio capture products.

Technical Information

The OrangeWare 1394 Audio driver will support both the TI  iceLynx-Micro and the Oxford FW970 chip.  Support is provided for 1394 streaming on 6 or 8 channels of audio at speeds up to 400 Mb/s for receiving and processing 32-bit audio data sampled at up to 192kHz.

A second phase of the driver development will culminate next month with support for an ASIO interface.  This will facilitate Pro Audio applications for Midi/Mixer environments.
